ATTENTION EVERYONE!!!

There is a new scam that has been brought to our attention:

Toddlers and young children oppose as if they are abandoned and they need help on the side of the street, side walk etc. Once someone stops to assist, the child takes you (supposedly to show you what he needs help with) to a destination where adults are waiting for you to:
1. Rob you
2. Rape you
3. Assault you
4. Etc….
5. All of the above!

PLEASE FOR YOUR SAFETY if you witness something like the above DO NOT FOLLOW the child!
Call the local authorities!

ATTENTION YARD/GARAGE SALE PEOPLE

Another way of scamming has been brought to our attention:
Individuals purchase items from yard/garage sales with counterfeit bills. Obviously if someone gives you a $100 or a $50 bill for an item that costs $0.50 or even $3.00 something is fishy; but they also have counterfeits that are $1 $5 $10 and $20 dollar bills. Be careful.

You do not have to spend hundreds of dollars to buy an electronic device to check the bills like most retailers do. Just go to office depot, staples etc… and buy a marker that checks the bills.

This also applies to business conducted with cash from craigslist.

PARKING LOT SECURITY

Parking lots come in different forms from the huge high-rise or multi-level structures to lots of a small retail mall with only some stores. Parking lots provide a excellent service by allowing us access to residential and commercial areas but sometimes create a great risk. What distinguishes the relative safety of a parking lot are:
1) Crime history
2) Location
3) Nature of parking lot

SHOPPING PLAZAS

Shopping plazas come in different sizes from huge malls to small strip-malls with only a few stores. Their common issue is a parking lot. The parking lot is where innocent people are in a greatest risk because of the “nature” of a shopping center parking lot. Common violent crimes committed in parking lots are purse snatch and strong-arm robbery, occasionally carjackings and abductions.

ANTI FRAUD

Do you receive any payment instructions from your supervisor or any vendor through email?

If you answered yes and/or maybe, you are at risk for the latest fraud scheme. Fraudsters have been very successful in impersonating superiors, peers and vendors to get businesses to send them

AreYouFraudAwarefraudulent wire transfers and wire transfer payments. They have even stolen hundreds of thousands of dollars at a time. The fraudsters either compromise known parties emails or create similar looking emails (e.g., johnsmo@example.com vs. johnsmo @examp1e.com). The fraudster then requests payments be made and/or gives you new account numbers for any future payments. These email requests may look like regular correspondence between you and another party or even be inserted into an on-going conversation. The email requests will often have a sense of urgency, playing on your desire to help your manager or long-time trading partner.

To protect your company’s and/or your personal assets:

  • Always verify requests for wire transfers or ACH payments received through email. Perform call backs to other parties on known numbers to validate all requests received through email.
  • Always verify requests to send future payments to a new account.
  • Match requests with known invoices.
  • Dont be afraid to ask a question. A one-minute phone call is all it takes to protect your assets.
